Wild is a book by Cheryl Strayed which was later adopted into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon. The book chronicle's Strayed's attempt at hiking the California section of the Pacific Crest Trail. The book went onto become a bestseller with the movie earning an Oscar Nomination.
For many, Strayed's "Wild" is their first introduction into the world of thru-hiking and long distance backpacking. Released in 2012, it helped propel the niche hobby (or lifestyle) into a more mainstream light, inspiring many thru-hikers who would go on to become Triple Crowners.
Aside from the ins and outs of hiking the PCT in the 90s, the novel deals with addiction, the loss of Strayed's mother, and other themes that are interwoven to the main narrative of the story.
