Hikerpedia.org seeks to document the backcountry / wilderness and all of it’s ins-and-outs. It will do so for the following reasons:

For Equality

If you grew up without a family member to teach you how to recreate in the outdoors, or you grew up in an urban environment, there is a large barrier to entry for getting into hiking and backpacking. The outdoors can be an intimidating thing with no basis of knowledge, and Hikerpedia.org will help fill that gap.

For Safety

Education on the risks of recreating outdoors will help reduce the number of injuries, bad experiences, and rescues needed in the outdoors. Prevention of this kind can lead to avoiding loss-of-life situations, as well as freeing up resources for the organizations that are tasked with protecting the safety of hikers in their respective areas.

For Fun

Many hikers would rather be out in the woods exploring 24/7, but can’t due to life circumstances. Learning about the wilderness and what might be out there waiting for you is a good pastime in between adventures. This way you can choose your destinations, routes, and accommodations carefully to maximize the time you do have out there.
