The Adirondak Loj at Heart Lake Parking Lot is a major parking hub in the Adirondack Eastern High Peaks. This parking lot provides access to many of the region’s High Peaks and hiking and camping destinations.

Fees

There is a $15 fee to park at the Loj per day for non-members.  Members can park for $7 per day, or $3 per half day. Members also have the option of purchasing a yearly parking pass for $50.

Traffic

As one of the most popular parking lots in the entire region, this lot often fills up early in the morning depending on seasons, holidays, and other factors. By afternoon, many morning hikers will have finished and opened up available spots. When full, there is an overflow lot about 1 miles down the road. For those traveling from afar, car camping is available at the nearby South Meadows Ln. on a first come first serve basis.

Amenities

There are restrooms available at this parking lot, and are open for use at any hour. There is also a gift shop and information center on the premise. You can rent a bear canister or microspikes from here for a fee. The Hungry Hiker is a small outdoor grill that is open seasonally.

Trail Access

Some of the major trails that are accessed through the Loj are:

  • Van Hoevenerg Trail
  • Algonquin Trail
  • Avalanche Pass Trail
  • Indian Pass Trail
  • Mount Jo Trail
  • Street and Nye Trail
  • Heart Lake Trail

Bypass

If the lot is full or a hiker doesn’t want to pay the fee for the Loj but they are looking for access to Marcy Dam, they can park at the South Meadows Parking Area and take the Marcy Dam Truck Trail, bypassing the need to park at the Loj.

Rules

Camping is not allowed at this parking lot, which includes sleeping in a vehicle. There are alternative options for sleeping nearby including Meadows Lane campsites, or hiking into a trail and setting up anywhere that doesn’t violate the ADK camping regulations.
