A Winter 46er is someone who climbs all 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks of New York during the winter season. In order to qualify, hikers will need to hike each peak between December 21 and March 21, and it does not have to be done in a single year. People who do hike all of these peaks in a single year are known as Single Season Winter 46ers.

Difficulty and Safety

Because of the snowfall, extreme winds, and low temperatures, becoming a winter 46er is much more difficult and dangerous than simply becoming a 46er. An entirely different set of gear and skills are needed in order to complete the challenge, and so it should only be undertaken by experienced hikers. Bringing an emergency satellite beacon would be advisable for anyone attempting to become a winter 46er.
