The Devil's Tombstone Campground is a camping area in between the Indian Head Wilderness and the Hunter-West Kill Wilderness in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The campground itself is located in Stony Clove Notch along the Stony Clove Creek and Notch Lake, and is a short distance away from the town of Tannersville.
Location
This campground serves as the unofficial midway point of the Devil's Path, and offers a place to stay for those trying to traverse the trail in a two-day outing. It is also where the Long Path of New York joins the Devil's Path before heading East. It divides the Devil's Path East from the Devil's Path West, and the campground itself offers close, but steep access to both Plateau Mountain and Orchard Point to the west and Hunter Mountain to the East.
Camping
The campground offers a total of 22 sites available, and is generally open from May through October. The price for a site is $16.00 per night.
Amenities
There are restrooms and fishing opportunities in the area. A day use area with picnic benches is nearby the parking lot, and potable water pumps are available to those needing to fill up.
Name
The Devil's Tombstone is named after a large rock or boulder that resembles a tombstone, which has a plaque to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Catskill Forest Preserve.
