The Denning Road Trailhead is a trailhead in Denning, New York, specifically in the Slide Mountain Wilderness of the Catskills. This is a popular trailhead that serves for a starting point for many popular hikes in the region.
Access and Parking
This trailhead is a bit off the beaten path and requires an extensive drive on winding roads through residential towns. The parking capacity is not huge and can probably accommodate two dozen cars or so. It can get crowded during peak season as this is a very common backpacking destination.
Popular Routes from this Trailhead
Because of the bushwhacked peaks that lie along the Catskill Divide, there are tons of combinations of mountains that can be done from this location. The most popular would be to hike Table Mountain with some opting to add Peekamoose Mountain as well. This is the trailhead that provides access to the Fisherman's Path that follows along the East Branch of the Neversink River, and so any combination of Lone, Rocky, Balsam Cap and Friday can be done from this location. The Phoenicia - East Branch trail will take the hiker to the Curtis Ormsbee Trail which eventually provides access to Slide Mountain, as well as Cornell and Wittenberg which can be added. The Fisherman's Path is also a popular destination on its own for those who enjoy fishing.
Backpacking
This trailhead is a launching point for many overnight adventures. The Table Mountain Lean-to can be accessed from this trailhead. There are also many sites nearby the Neversink River along the Peekamose Table Trail, just past the Million Dollar Bridge. Additional campsites can be found along the Phoenicia - East Branch Trail and the Wittenberg Cornell Slide Trail. The Finger Lakes Trail passes through this trailhead as well.
