Andrew Skurka is a backpacking personality, professional guide, and blogger. He is considered one of the main originators of the Ultralight Backpacking movement. He is known to hike with base weights well under 10 lbs., often closer to 5.
Hiking Accomplishments
After completing the Appalachian Trail, Skurka ventured away from the mainstream of hiking by completing the Great Western Loop, an almost 7,000 mile loop that links many long distance trails and National Parks. He followed that hike by completing the Sea-To-Sea route which traversed the North American Continent east to west from Quebec to Washington State, during which Skurka saw brutal winter conditions requiring thousands of miles of snowshoeing. He later went on to traverse the Brooks Range in Alaska which requires intense logistics and off-trail navigation.
High Routes
Besides his hiking resume, Skurka is best known for creating and promoting various High Routes. According to Andrew, these off-trail routes offer him the most bang for his buck in terms of quality of experience versus time spent.
Backpacking Meal Recipes
